Lee Rim's
paintings find primary source material in the performance and photography and
her oeuvre focuses on the intensity of human emotions. Lee's self-portraits
begin as performances where she applies black and white paint onto her nude
figure, and then she photographs herself. Both media serve as a vehicle to
transform a stylistic female form onto canvas in order to convey her personal
massage - feelings of intimacy, isolation and suffering.
이림의 셀프 포트레이트 회화는 3가지 단계를 거쳐 완성된다. 먼저 스스로의 몸에 검정과 흰색의 물감을 바르고 퍼포먼스를 한 뒤 그 모습을 사진으로 찍고 사진의 이미지를 회화로 재현한다. 퍼포먼스와 사진은 이림 회화의 기초적인 재료가 되어 인간 감정의 극렬함을 표현한다. 이 두가지 매체는 여성 신체의 형태를 친밀함, 고독, 고통과 같은 개인적인 감정을 전달하는 캔버스로 변형시키는 역할을 한다.
